Hmmm... so Caruba is saying:

- Arab traditions and world view predate Islam
- Muslim Arabs follow a book that dates from the 610 AD and has not been changed since
- they believe they have the one true religion, and that other religions are false or a threat
- they are ethno-centric
- they are proud
- beliefs are rooted in ancient conflict like the Sunni/Shia split
- they are competitive
- they can be violent
- they believe their world is threatened by the non-Muslim world

Fine to make such broad and negative observations. But how many of these things can be turned around and said about the more fundamentalist or extremist Christians and Jews, or about many Americans in general? Isn't it a bit hypocritical, especially if as a non-Arab one might be a culturally arrogant, small-minded, ethnocentric fundamentalist Christian supporting war and extreme violence like George Bush? Or a bit over-simplistic if we consider that not all Arabs are Muslim, many are secular, and it seems that moderate Arabs like Mr. Abbas are as marginalized by non-Arabs as they are by extremist Muslim Arabs. And he ends with saying we must demand unconditional surrender of the Arab world? Seems like Mr. Caruba shares the screwed up world view that he blames Arabs of having.
