Having evolution, or other parts of the universe, operate in a largely random fashion, doesn't preclude some purpose for any other part of the universe.

Accidental and purposeful are contradictory. But X being accidental and Y being purposeful is not.

If life originated accidentally (which I don't believe is even possible) as per orthodox Darwinism, then it doesn't have a purpose and can't have been produced by a Divine Intelligence.

The origin of life, is distinct from later parts of the evolution of life including for example the rise of intelligence and sentience. Any of a massive amount of parts of the evolution of life could be purposeful with the majority of the change still being accidental. Also the whole progress of life could be random or mostly random, while other aspects of the universe (such as perhaps the physical laws that enable life to evolve in the first place) could be purposeful.

If you divide the universe up in to a billion different types of things or different areas of interest, or different major changes; any number from 0 to a billion can be random, it doesn't have to be 0 or a billion.
