When I think of whether or not we are a civilized society........... I think of a nun I met who was a 4 year old child living at Hickam Field when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. Everyone she knew lost a family member on that infamous day. She wasn't evacuated for another four months and she went to bed every night in a state of terror at the thought of the planes returning. She was terrified at every sound and feared the Japs were returning to finish off everyone else on the island. I can't help but think that the children of Baghdad felt the same way. And, every night our planes did return to bomb more houses and kill more people. What have we done to the children? Many will surely hate us with a vengeance. So much for civilization!
