"I would say that it is asking questions that is none of their business." If people don't want to answer a question... then they don't answer the question (or they hang up, or whatever). (The percentage of non-response is recorded too for the poll, of course.) I don't see any problem --- unless for some reason someone doesn't want it to be known what American people believe and think.
