Politics is politics. That will always be true, with the consolation that it drives populists even MORE crazy than they are in the first place.

There are elements in any administration who have the function of driving it in the opposite direction. Colin Powell, who looked good on paper, was a total disaster for Bush on Isreal and continues to be on the war with subhuman Islam. He fired him, and history has vindicated Bush already.

Bush's strategy of giving Congress enough rope to hang itself-rather than fight it every step of the way-has mostly worked, but its larger benefits are in the longer run, and will help fill the vacuum left by the absence of term limits. These senile old bastards REALLY need to stay under the radar, and that's becoming far less possible.

Bush was forced to abandon the conservatives on immigration because they sold out to the populists by adopting anti-Hispanic racism. Being from Texas, he simply KNOWS better than to side with the "They broke 'our' laws-send 'em all BACK" New Orville "Axe Handle" Faubuses of the right.

That conflict also weakens the argument in the White House against those who advise that it would be chic and cool to accept the insanity of the global warming fraud, and the last 2 years could result in additional disappointment fro the right and the American people in general:

Already there are plenty of conservatives who might not mind seeing the party flushed out before it becomes the Democrat left all over again:
