No, thanks for reminding me, sometimes I forget what Protestants are taught about Catholics.

LOL

You have some kind of hang up with Protestants. Believe it or not, we're not taught anything about Catholics. Other than you are a Christian based religion.

"I forget what Protestants are taught about Catholics.

Meanwhile, the Pope just threw down the gauntlet over jihad, in case anybody misses his meaning.

Speaking about what outsiders are taught...

Jihad literally means conquest of goodness over evil in the world and/or putting good things into the world; and is first and foremost a representation of the internal struggle that we all face on a daily basis.

It is a principle of life that carries various levels of realization.

The highest level of jihad is an internal struggle which amounts to conquering the desires of self, especially the desires to have worldly things. An example given by Mohammed to illustrate the point was... If a thief take your coat you have the legal right to try to get it back (by force exacted by a judges decree or by forcefully taking it back from the thief yourself.) But you would achieve the higher jihad if you are able to let the coat go to someone who is obviously in greater need of it than you. ...

sound familiar or similar to: "If a thief take your coat, give him your cloak also"

Further: Jihad is reasonable. If there is injustice to you personally or if injustice is in the world harming other creatures, you should resist it any way that is reasonable: If you are able, you should use your physical resources and strength against it and replace it with what is good and just. If you are unable to use physical resources and strength, you should speak against the injustice. If for some reason that is impractical (your children would be tortured in front of you by Saddam for example), they you should form a position against it in your heart.

The idea of a war in which certain forces are bound to destroy others via a 'jihad war' wrapped in geopolitical interests is a corrupted interpretation of jihad. The idea that innocents may be targets of terrorism is a corruption of the core principle of Islam. The only 'holy wars' that could have qualified as jihad is when the Muslims living with Mohammad were persecuted by having their caravans attacked by the Quresh tribes, after having been driven from their homes by the same tribes. These people were truly being persecuted for believing in One God by polytheistic tribemen who dominated their region, not unlike Abraham in his day.

This guantlet business lacks theological integrity.
