First, I don't think our soldiers are all that restrained. Second, if they are restrained, it is because Iraq is essentially a political not a military problem. And in many cases we have no idea if an individual is "the enemy" or a civilian. If we act like the Mongol Hordes we are certainly not going to "win" anything.

And finally, I don't know why you think Rummy or Bush are suddenly listening to the Democrats on how to conduct the war.

No, you can't blame the Democrats for this mess, as much as you would like to. This is a Republican war.
