Talked to a friend who has a strong military background and still is upset that goldwater didnt win in 64. He says from all he has seen that the US should vacate anbar province. We should pacify Bagdad and stop the killing here. WE should work with all shiaa to secure their area, even militias. If we can secure bagdad, shiaa areas and given kurdistan is already de facto independent, we should then help with population moves both ways, encourage the shiaa to ahow tolerance to sunnis who choose to stay. Anbar province should then be contained in ways tbd. Syria should be engaged. Iran should be engaged to be supportive of shiaa iraq. New country in best case outcome would be kurds, shia and city of bagdad. Anbar would be a territory to ultimately be brought into the fold, peacefully where possible. US should support iraqis in this effort but not be the central force. We should leave iraq in a calender year from date this is announced. Thoughts????

If you don't want to talk about it, then I won't waste my time (or yours).

But kindly don't make proclamations you don't intend to back up.
