Would it not be more accurate to phrase it this way: "It was Pope Urban II who first disseminated to the general public the idea of a Crusade to recapture the Holy Land with the famous words: "Deus vult!" ("God wills it!")"?

After all, the Muslims conquered that territory by force, and forced Christians to "convert" to Islam or die, and otherwise enslaved them.

I've never understood why present-day Muslims are still so pissed off about the Crusades.

Seems to me they were a case of "what goes around, comes around."

Or, "he who lives by the sword, dies by the sword."
