Now we also know that Rumsfeld threatened to fire anyone who brought up a contingency plan for occupation of Iraq. They didn't even want to hear that their rosy calculations might be wrong. They said we would be welcomed with open arms. The really sad thing is that it could have been true. If we had done what we were professing we wanted to do, give freedom to Iraq, the people there might not have turned against us. But we turned Iraq in to a profiteering orgy run by corporate profiteers like Haliburton that don't even hire local Iraqis for jobs. They import the cheapest labor they can find to do the work, while the unemployment rate amongst Iraqis is very high. At least 25%. So it became obvious to the typical Iraqi that we were not there to benefit them.
