This is a very interesting subject for us mining speculators. I believe it is true that bankers assess loan financing according to historic prices. For that reason very few new mines are able to raise adequate debt finance;..historic prices were so low and costs are now so high. That leaves the futures market into which a prospective producer might hedge to raise finance, but backwardation discourages that.

So a big question in my mind is when can we expect normal contango in the metal markets ? My particular interest is zinc. Any comment you have here would be very much appreciated.
