What most people don't realize about Shiller was that he was pessimistic on the US stock market from at least the early 90s - a low dividend yield was his rationale then. As luck would have it his book came out right at the top but he has no special timing abilities. The book does a good job of collating the excesses of valuation that had been present for some years but did not "predict" the bear market any more than a book on storm strengthening your house predicts a hurricane.

The current hero worship of a middling - if focused - researcher I find a little bizarre.

I believe Shiller recently founded or cofounded a new trading vehicle to basically bet on rising/falling real estate prices in several local US markets. Promoted as a way to hedge against your potential loss in market value of your own home.

Don't know a great deal more about it, just the general idea.
