Galileo had it easy....why not ask William Tyndale? The issue of the Earth and Sun is one thing...but Tyndale's mistake earned him the right to be strangled and then his body burned. Plus, Galileo's family still makes good but cheap wine in California....just kidding you wine experts!!

I like the example of Giordano Bruno who was burned at the stake as a heretic by the Catholic Church*. His heresy was to assert that the sun was the center of our solar system and that the earth rotated around it.

The Scripture at issue was:

Psalms 93:1
The LORD reigneth, he is clothed with majesty; the LORD is clothed with strength, wherewith he hath girded himself: the world also is stablished, that it cannot be moved.

The interpretation is an example of finding meaning in the text that was not the purpose of the text, a violation of hermeneutics.
