OT: Marcos, thanks for that fascinating link. If I was still teaching cultural studies at university, I would be steering a few of my bright students towards that topic so I could learn more about it. But these days I have to do all the heavy lifting myself, which I certainly will in this case. I love symbols like this that are this fraught with contradictions -- it's fascinating to see the multiple signifiers play themselves out in different milieux. LC
