Y'know Arran.. I'm sorry.. I shouldn't have been so sarcastic in my response..

But given what we see happening in China, where long repressed desires by individual Chinese to be entrepreneurs and consumers are being pursued to excess.

I hardly see the moderation you imply makes China less motivated by profit than the US.

If anything, having to do without something for so many years (or being able to have it for the first ever) creates far greater excess and sociological and economic stratification.

I really wish the Chinese people well as they learn to enjoy the fruits of their labors.

But I cannot say the same thing about the power elite in Bejing who hide behind this excuse of "inner-party democracy".. There can be NO democracy unless political, economic and social ideas and values can be "marketed" and chosen from, by the people being governed.
