Jim - How about the 35W version of the A64 X2 3800+ or the 35W A64 3500+? Of course, you could always look into Turions at 25W, like the MT-40, 2.2GHz S754.

I'd be thinking AM2 35W X2 3800+ and an XP-90 (Al not Cu) with a Nexus 92mm fan running at 7V or less if you want to support AMDs bottom line. :)

Of course you can buy a 65W version and undervolt it yourself if your board supports that.

Athlon 64 X2 3800+ 2000 MHz 2x512KB 1000MHz 10x 1.025/1.075 V 35W Socket AM2 ADD3800IAT5CU

Nexus 92 7V gives 700rpm 10cfm 17(dBA@1m) from silentpcreview.com

XP-90 review is at silentpcreview.com it's an old design but for space limited setups it may be the best you'll ever find. And it will work on AM2 with a $3 bracket replacement called "AM2 RM (Rev. B)" if for some reason you don't get that revision when you buy it.

I think the XP-90 is safe for any setup but the next step down the ladder is heatsinkoutlet.com with a fan swap to get rid of the noisy Delta stock fan. Pick your favorite 80mm fan (nexus, scythe, panaflo, etc) that is under 2000 rpm at 12v and then run it at 7v if you like. It won't cool as well as the XP-90 but it doesn't hang out as far and has a 80mm fan instead of the 92mm fan you'd likely use with the XP-90.
