Eight years ago this week Long Term Capital Management, another Greenwich, CT firm was days from being bailed out to avert a possible 1987 or 1929 type stock market collapse. I wonder if Goldman and (or) it's mafia buddies was sleeping with the enemy here too? Read a fascinating book on LTCM where Goldman was 'reviewing' the books for possible investment banking business as LTCM was sliding and most likely used that info to place huge trades that put LTCM further and further into a hole the highly leveraged firm couldn't recover from.
