Consider the following scenario: clueless traders figure that Zune announcement will drip aapl to its knees and short the stock in anticipation, but it rises instead. Traders continue shorting to put a lid on the price and plan on driving it down as they have in the past. Maybe spread some rumors. This is possible because :
no dividends +no guidance + no buyback = vulnerable price.

They drove it to the low 50s despite the great fundamentals.

apple very strong AH and up. ORCL had very strong numbers and AAPL announced their earnings call on 10/18. I guess if you are totally clueless and think there is any chance apple will warn, this earnings date announce is good news.
