To me it was pretty obvious that if there were any WMDs [of the chemical, biological non-nuclear variety] there were trivial amounts. Unlike you, I predicted that King George II would indeed invade. Not only that, but that he would win in the time it took a Globalstar satellite to orbit once [110 minutes]. Which was of course literary license as it would take a tank that long at 100 kph just to get inside the border and find a nice parking lot for the evening. It was obvious that Iraqis would NOT "stand and fight". They were well aware of what happens to people who stand and fight. A Spectre circling around makes a BIG mess of things on the ground. Daisy Cutters are broad spectrum anti-biotics and had been demonstrated in Afghanistan. Running for it in their undies was the obvious strategy for Iraqi soldiers. It was obvious that USA tanks would be driving around Baghdad in short order, looking for something to shoot. But it was also obvious that there would be insurrection afterwards, run from attics, basements, warehouses and living rooms. I guessed something like 3,000 USA soldiers would die in the alley-way conflict. Hey presto, about the right number! I would not have wanted to do the invasion myself as I have better things to do than help sort out internecine conflict between M-slems. But I didn't object to Americans doing it if they thought it a good idea, since I was quite happy for Saddam and sons to be put out of power one way or another. Having lost a LOT of money in Globalstar [and I knew the principle anyway] I learned that obdurate, stubborn, pig-headed people will continue with their plans no matter what the facts. They prefer to go to their graves than admit that they were wrong/stupid/ideologically false/backing the wrong horse/making a big mistake. Self-belief is so vital to getting to be the boss, that they seem unable to realize that sometimes they are less than amazing and might be conducting feats of clay. After a lifetime of bluster and bullying and getting their own way, getting to the top, they can't understand that the law of nature in which they believe [themselves] is badly-designed and doesn't match reality on a grander scale. So, they go down, taking all they can control with them. It's hard to believe that faced with obvious facts, obviously intelligent people will go ahead and do something which will cause big trouble. It's not a matter of intelligence. It's a matter of belief. Americans should not blame King George II. Just as I shouldn't blame Globalstar management for my lost money. Americans should blame themselves [something like 80% were gung ho for King George II] and I should blame myself for being a poor investor, unable to correctly measure the psyche of the management of Globalstar. Sure, it was the Globalstar management and King George II who led the charge to the shambles, but it wasn't them who were in charge of investors' dollars and the voting machines and Congress. Even now, most Americans think the UN is antithetical to their interests. They are wrong [well, they are right at present, to some extent, but a reconstituted NUN would NOT be against their interests - long run interests, not Halliburton and Exxon next quarter profits]. The USA will live to regret the dog eat dog world that continues to exist, frittering away the opportunity to recast the world in a better way. There is only 5% of the world who are American. That's not a long-run good position to be in when it's a dog eat dog world. Civilisation is much better. Mqurice PS: I have no idea what the planners do in the Pentagon and where the people in NSA and Military Intelligence get their intelligence, but they should change supplier. My services are much cheaper. Free! And, they come with a double your money back guarantee. The Pentagon Planners don't offer that. Nor does King George II.
