If Iranian Shi'a muslims control majority of Iraq, Iran could become a potential superpower in the region.

Which, in part, is why we need to remain in the middle of this Sunni/Shi'a religious fued in order to prevent this from spreading into a regional religious clash that draws in every nation in the region.

The one thing going for us is that Iraq's Shi'a population are Arabs and the holiest cities of Shi'ism reside within Iraq. So your average Iraqi Shi'a is not about to subjugate themselves to Iranian domination of those holy sites, let alone their Persian ethnicity.

Al-Sistani is far more important to the future of Iraq than most people recognize. He's the one who has restrained Muqtada Al-Sadr and his patron, Grand Ayatollah Al-Hareri. Al-Haeri would like to replace Al-Sistani, I believe and Muqtada Al-Sadr is his ticket to that position.

And the comparison to their being similar to a nascient pre-WWII party, this can be stated with regard to many different groups around the world, IMO. HOWEVER, the Islamo-Fascist militant religious ideology is a bit more advanced than most of the others with regard to its agenda, as well as its ability to carry out that agenda.

And btw, just to reiterate publicly (lest some muslim cleric issue a Fatwa against me.. ;0) I do not believe most Muslims are violent, nor do I believe that Islamo-Fascism represents the aspirations of the majority of Muslims.

If I saw Christians advocating a militant religious Crusade to dominate the world, I'd called the Christo-Fascists.
