That's sure been my experience. I have the HP Photosmart 1215 and am very happy with it. I don't print my own photos anymore, so it's a big overkill of a printer. Now it just prints a few charts (very few). So I run one or two on the week end just to keep the thing from clogging.

A few months back when I heard that Canon was going to do the cartridge chip thing I went out and bought an ip4000 on sale at Staples.

I think that was a good move. I'll bet those pre-cartridge chip models still command a good price on eBay.

I suspect the compatible manufactures will find away around the chip eventually, if they haven't already. But they'll probably offer them at higher price than the non chip ones.
