Apparently Amaranth held a whack of Goldcorp as well. I'd bet that their other hedge fund buddies started shorting those stocks when they found out Amaranth was in distress (a la LTCM).

from todays Globe and Mail

Besides Amaranth's 15-per-cent interest in Cinram, the fund also has a 35-per-cent interest in Counsel, 13 per cent of Dynatec, 15 per cent of Frontera Copper and 10 per cent of Vicwest Income Fund. Shares in Dynatec, Frontera Copper and Vicwest Income Fund all fell on speculation Amaranth would sell some of its holdings.
