I don't subscribe to that position but there are those that do, and I can't say that they're wrong. That's an option. It would likely be effective although not free of side effects. But that option is effectively off the table. Too many people would consider it barbaric. If we won't do it, there's no point in longing for it. We have to choose among the available options, which are few. We can smack them around just hard enough to make them madder and us poorer but not hard enough for them to cry uncle. Or we can try influencing them over time. Neither is promising, at least in the short term, but that's all there is.
