In other words, they apply governmental requirements on people using religion, instead of other means of discrimination?

That is, governments do the same sorts of things based on income, while sharia does it based on beliefs. Otherwise, it's pretty much the same thing, isn't it?

4) It is true that other religions have historically converted non-believers by the use of force, but the Koran is the ONLY holy book with the requirement that non-believers be converted by the use of force."

The True, Peaceful Face Of Islam
Islam did not impose itself by the sword. In a statement in which the Arabic is extremely emphatic, the Koran insists, "There must be no coercion in matters of faith!" (2: 256)

American Islamic Congress

Islam is a deeply personal faith. It can help address spiritual needs, answer moral and ethical questions, and provide guidance in raising a family. But we believe in a separation of all religions from politics, and disagree with those in the Muslim world and beyond that try to force their religious beliefs on others through politics or coercion.

Islam 101
14. The true Muslim believes that Faith is not complete when it is followed blindly or accepted unquestioningly unless the believer is reasonably satisfied. If Faith is to inspire action, and if Faith and action are to lead to salvation, then Faith must be founded on unshakable convictions without any deception or compulsion. In other words, the person who calls himself a Muslim because of his family traditions, or accepts Islam under coercion or blind imitation is not a complete Muslim in the sight of God. A Muslim must build his Faith on well-grounded convictions beyond any reasonable doubt and above uncertainty. If he is not certain about his Faith, he is invited by God to search in the open book of Nature, to use his reasoning powers, and to reflect on the teachings of the Qur’an. He must search for the indisputable truth until he finds it, and he will certainly find it, if he is capable and serious enough (see, for example, the Qur’an, 2:170; 43:22-24).

CB, GIVE ME A BREAK!

1) For Muslims, every word in the Koran was put there by order of Allah Himself, and no word can be removed or explained away.

The Koran is perfect (according to Muslims).

I couldn't COUNT the number of times I've heard Christians say that the Bible is the Revealed Word of God, Divinely Inspired, and every word is meant to be there by him. In fact, the Bible ITSELF says that no one shall alter one word of it. And this is in line with writings I've seen by Christians.

And if that is NOT true, YOU'VE got an even bigger problem: What do you believe? Which parts came from God and which didn't? What can you safely ignore? At least the Muslims are clear about it (the Christian Bible is too, but THAT'S your problem).

Do you pick and chose based on your OWN beliefs and morals and ethics? Why, you're no better than those atheists!

2) The Koran orders Muslims to convert non-believers or force them to otherwise submit by paying a special tax which is levied on non-believers only, or else they must die.
Funny. RCG quoted a passage and gave a link to it that explicitly says otherwise.

3) The Koran tells Muslims that they don't have to do this in places where they are in a minority of the population, only in places where they have numeric superiority.
See above.

4) It is true that other religions have historically converted non-believers by the use of force, but the Koran is the ONLY holy book with the requirement that non-believers be converted by the use of force.
See above.
Yeah, and you want to know what one of those "other religions" was? CHRISTIANITY!

5) If Muslims can figure out a way to distance themselves from this provision in the Koran, more power to them.
You've got a cage of your own to get out of. Don't worry about the mote in your neighbors eye; take care of the log in yours.
