The force of one more brick was nowhere near the level necessary to slow the acceleration of his hand.

When the top 20 floors of the WTC fell the force generated by the floor below was not enough to stop the floors, it was not even enough to stop the acceleration of the floors and so they crushed one by one as the collapse gained speed. There is no reason to think that the zone of collapse was not accelerating almost as fast (but not quite) as the debris along the side.
