Hello Maurice, <<the USA supported such regimes traditionally and enthusiastically>> ... why do you use the past tense?

As to the rest of what you wrote, maybe, perhaps, possibly, who knows, or, just could be that, having seen the worst, I know bad when I see it, and speaking the truth.

Chugs, J

TJ has too many links to the rest of the world to be mindlessly subsumed by China's strictures. But one likes to have identity and he probably doesn't have strong affinity for USA/NZ or Japan.

I concur.. I certainly can sympathize with that. I've had my experiences with "Ugly Americanism" and have caught my share of heat from associates when I admonished them for their actions.

And I've had to swallow my fair share of "crow" as I have been forced to explain how past US administrations have supported dictators and despots or other actions I've not been proud of.

But that doesn't prevent me from still being an advocate for democratic reforms and accountable government.

I wonder if water-boarding would be considered torture if China did it to Americans they catch illegally inside China. Just to get hold of vital information about Taiwan of course, since the USA is threatening China.

Maurice.. this is always a controversial subject.. But I've attempted to make it quite clear that I only support harsh interrogations in cases where we're relative certain that the detainee possesses information that, if obtained, will save the lives of other people (knowlege related to upcoming terrorist attack, or terrorist cell infrastructure/leadership).

I do not, and would not, condone harsh treatment merely for being a combatant, illegal or legal..

And if the chinese government were to arrest an American who was part of a plot to commit a violent act, or a member of a violent terrorist cell, then I wouldn't particularly care if they "water-boarded" him/her.

I certainly wouldn't shed a tear for that person...
