you're not keeping up with the story.

You are taking factoids from one context and applying them in a context where they don't belong.

The failure of the 3 or 4 floors around the impact site and fire is different from the failure of the 80+ floors that were crushed by the top of the building. Those 80+ floors did pancake, however the collapse was not initiated by a pancake event, but by a weakening and sagging of the trusses.
