"Where's Katherine?

When President Bush comes to Orlando's Ritz Carlton this week to raise as much as $4 million for Republican gubernatorial candidate Charlie Crist and the state party, GOP Senate nominee Katherine Harris may be there as well.

Although Harris had planned to spend Thursday evening speaking to Republicans in Atlantic Beach, both her campaign and the Republican Party of Florida now say she'll be at the GOP fundraiser. That's a bit of a surprise because party leaders have kept Harris at arm's length for months. Last week, in fact, party insiders suggested it was unlikely that Harris would be invited to the Orlando event.

Harris is not exactly a candidate Republicans are looking to showcase this fall -- after she has drawn attention chiefly for the revolving-door she's created for campaign staff and for her ties to a Washington lobbyist under investigation by federal authorities.

But Tuesday, RPOF spokesman Jeff Sadosky said Harris had been invited and was expected to attend.

Earlier in the day, Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, said Harris was welcome.
"I think she should come to the event in Orlando," he said. "Unless she has a previous engagement, I think she should attend. She's the party nominee for U.S. Senate."
