Perhaps you have a different definition of "civil discussion and thoughtful analysis". I don't think it includes slamming people who have a different view from yours on a controversial subject. There are plenty of threads where people can indulge in YOU SUPPORT TORTURE, YOU ANIMAL!! or YOU WANT TO CODDLE THE ISLAMOFASCIST HORDES!!. I don't consider either position civil or thoughtful. If folks disagree, they can wander off to other threads, fine with me. Every other new political thread I have seen in the last year disintegrates into the same stale left-right pissing match after a while. Not here.
