I'm almost afraid to ask but what were his remarks?

"We respect the pope and all those interested in peace and justice," Ahmadinejad, an observant Muslim and a hard-liner against the West, said in Venezuela before leaving for the United Nations in New York. "I understand that he has modified the remarks he made."

Personally, I think any popularity he is experiencing has to do with his success at calling President Bush's bluff and getting away with (so far) thumbing his nose at the World Powers that be. Love him or hate him, that is impressive.

The one great failing of liberal thought is that they have completely failed to understand the testosterone challenge. Every time someone like Ahmadinejad thumbs his nose at the US and is allowed to get away with it, the importance and the ability of the US to negotiate is lessened.
You are not dealing with a modern society, you are dealing with a world where women are possessions, and where Gays are routinely murdered and where weakness is exploited. And then you send a woman to bargain for you. Strategy is not an American ability obviously. The United States Envoy in any discussions with the Muslims should be the oldest and bloodiest Commander you have, and it should be immediately apparent that he has the authority to declare war for the slightest insult. He should arrive at any discussion in Gunships with marines in attack fatigues ready to kill. Then the Men of Islam would respect him.

American discussions on "War Crimes and Torture" in Cuban and Syrian prisons make the US look weak and silly. Arabs are far more understanding of torture, and far more prone to use it than North Americans, so most of your "tortures" verge on the silly more than on the painful. Thus the angst of the left on the "Tortures" simply makes good press and gives the Muslims the firm belief that most americans are fat, lazy, and morally and mentally immature. Most people who have lived in the middle East experienced more pain dealing with the cows, and goats than Americans inflict during "Torture".......

Look to your Black culture and the idea of Masculinity for a guide. Look at John Wayne for G*ds sake. Try to understand that your culture, your way of life is fine for you, but a culture rooted in the ideas of 622ad is going to find them confusing, immoral, and cowardly. Sometimes you have to treat people in a way that they understand and not in some snotty way that you understand. Dialogue with Islam means that We have to try to communicate on their terms. Our terms make them nauseous.

He is very excited about the return of the 12th Imam.

"I am emphatically declare that today's world more than ever before longs for just and righteous people with love for all humanity, and above all longs for the perfect, righteous human being and the real savior who has been promised to all peoples and who will establish justice, peace and brotherhood on the planet. Oh Almighty God, all men and women are your creatures and you have ordained their guidance and salvation. Bestow upon humanity that thirst for justice, the perfect human being promised to all by you, and make us among his followers among those who strive for his return and his cause."

He also asks: "Is it appropriate to expect this generation to submit to[to the Security Council]?"
