In one case one man had to go to the Supreme court to get a pair of shoes. Imagine not being allowed any shoes. The prisoners in Canada were in solitary confinement with no television, no radio, no books, no newspapers, and no human contact for 5 years. Some of them are still there. Even the American prisoners had access to the Koran, but not in Canada. One man was in a cell with no heat, In Canada in winter. There is no evidence that the Canadian government did NOT know about Mr Arar and his plight. There is no evidence that he got any aid from Canada during his captivity, and there is no evidence that there are not more Canadians who suffered similar problems. As I recall there was evidence that the Canadian Ambassador visited him in a Syrian prison. There was no huge effort on Canada's part to get him back. At the same time the Liberal Government was making a big thing about not beefing up security in Canada and how Canada didn't need the US. So in Canada, and right now I am in Canada, the Governments position publicly was there were no terrorists and there was no problem. All the time the Liberals were playing up how they were not going to pander to the US they were squealing on their own citizens, and they were not even telling the truth about it. So this is not only an American problem, and in mr Arar's case It is in an enormous way a Canadian problem, and even the present Conservative Government is trying desperately not to have to look at what happened and why. And unless I miss my guess, it will be under the carpet so fast that Canadians will never know what happened.
