If a mutual fund gains 100% one year and loses 50% the next, it has a 25% per year gain, right?

My usual example is:

When you drive 2 miles and average 30 MPH for the first mile, how fast do you have to travel the 2nd mile to average 60 MPH for the 2 mile trip?

yep, it's a bytch.

George

if CRUS is down 7% and FDRY is up 17%, why ain't I up 10% overall?

Stock Price Shares Value Cost Change
CRUS $7.57 6.143 $46.50 $8.14 -7%
FDRY $12.52 4.690 $58.72 $10.66 17%
steveharris Total = $105.22

$50 * 0.93 = $46.50
$50 * 1.17 = $58.50

Add them together and you got $105.00, up ~5%.

How you gonna demand "I should be up 10%" without resorting to special tejek math?
