Because XM gets paid for the use of O&A on terrestrial, including a piece of the ad revenue; and 2. Because the additional exposure of O&A on terrestrial is bringing in subscribers for XM to hear the uncensored portion of the show. Every day, EVERY DAY, O&A on their terrestrial show are saying, "Hey, we'll save this bit for the XM show" -- the equivalent to saying, "If you want to hear the good stuff, get an XM subscription". 3. Because O&A now get much better guests than they ever could have gotten while on XM only. This is a major factor and is becoming more apparent over time. 4. Because O&A now get better exposure than they could have gotten previously; for example, Stern appeared on David Letterman before his move, but now, O&A are appearing on Letterman and there is no evidence that Stern is receiving any invitations. O&A have recently been invited to Leno's show, as well. This should be easy to see given that everyone [but Stern] has now agreed that Stern has effectively maginalized his own significance because he is now relegated to a small number of listeners (maybe a million, maybe two -- but not 12 million) on Sirius. The reality is that the satellite radio audience (XM & SIRI combined) is tiny compared to terrestrial. When Stern left terrestrial, he left his power base behind. When O&A started doing a terrestrial show in addition to the XM show, O&A siezed that power base and now has far greater listenership than Stern -- and is adding major markets frequently.blog.wired.com newyorkbusiness.com medialifemagazine.com
