China Unicom end-Aug GSM mobile subscribers 102.22 mln vs 101.37 mln end-July 09.19.2006, 08:12 PM forbes.com BEIJING (XFN-ASIA) - China Unicom Ltd (HK 0762; NYSE CHU) said subscribers to its GSM mobile service rose to 102.22 mln at the end of August, from 101.37 mln at the end of July. China Unicom said its postpaid GSM users increased by 3.76 mln in the first eight months of the year, with the number of prepaid users up by 3.4 mln. Subscribers to its CDMA service totaled 35.06 mln, compared with 34.78 mln at the end of the previous month, the company said. China Unicom said its postpaid CDMA subscribers rose by 2.2 mln in January-August, with prepaid users up by 142,000. China Unicom is the country's second-largest wireless carrier after China Mobile.
