Hi Sidney, and welcome to the board!

My first reaction when I saw the title "Origin of Wealth" was to think likewise, since it called to mind the very same-sounding "Wealth of Nations." As much as I wanted to, intended to, and made a point to order it, I never did get to read "WoN". I did, however, read some of its reviews and abstracts, and I was privy to some critical discussion on it on another forum when it published.

As it happens, the WoN you're referring to was published at about the same time that another work by the same title was still in progress: The Wealth of Networks: Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of Global Internet Development, by Tom Vest, Senior Economic and Policy Analyst at The Cooperative Association for Internet Data Analysis (CAIDA).

From the executive summary of the Cook Report on Internet's August 2006 issue:

"The August issue introduces the analytical framework of Tom Vest's Wealth of Networks. In a long and detailed illustrated interview Tom explains his methodology that he hopes will permit an understanding of how changes in competitive environment in national network economies will [permit] an understanding of changes in what he calls internet production and greater insight into how the Internet contributes to that national economy. The issue includes a discussion on blogs and open source and the regular Symposium discussion.

"Tom's research portrays an Internet that defies the standard analogies to both "silos" and "layers", one that is composed of a complex mix of partially overlapping systems, interests, and institutions. He argues that this more "realistic" view is important because it helps to understand how and why the Internet grows in some places but not in others."

Correction. Of course, I meant to state "Wealth of Networks," not Adam Smith's "Wealth of Nations," in my earlier reply to you ;)
