The United Nations Secretary-General is the head of the Secretariat, one of the principal divisions of the United Nations. According to the UN Charter, the Secretary-General is to be appointed by the General Assembly on the recommendation of the Security Council. It is widely considered the most influential role in the United Nations. Secretaries-General serve for one or two terms of five years each. Traditionally the Secretary-General cannot be a national of any of the permanent security council nations. The post loosely follows a cycle in which each successive Secretary-General comes from a different continent.

Come on..you're more intelligent & rational than that reply would suggest. We slam AS' blind hatred for GW, can't Conservatives take the high road and acknowledge there's a handful of Democrats, including Pres Clinton, who place their country's welfare above party politics?...granted, the majority of them continue to empower the USA's enemies on the international stage; however, we need to fan the embers of the glimmer of political bi-partisanship that still exist.
