I suppose those who are concerned with the mechanics of the universe need to know them, but the vast majority of us cannot even understand the coffee table versions. The clearest one I've read is by a colleague of Penrose's, Stephen Hawking. He's the guy who has to speak through an interpreter because his body is such a wreck. I guess he makes use of more of his brain than most of us do. They say we waste 90% of our brain power, which is why I wanted to give a try at reading that book, The Road to Reality.
