Clinton, Spencer to debate in Rochester

The Associated Press

NEW YORK (AP) — Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and her Republican challenger, John Spencer, will meet in an hourlong debate in Rochester on Oct. 20.

All news television station NY1 announced Thursday it will host the debate, which will be broadcast on Time Warner cable stations throughout the state.

It's the first and only debate scheduled so far between Clinton and Spencer, a former Yonkers mayor, before the Nov. 7 general election.

A poll released this week by the Siena College Research Institute found Clinton leading Spencer by a margin of 62-33 percent. Spencer defeated Reagan-era Pentagon official Kathleen Troia "KT" McFarland Sept. 12 in a primary contest that drew record-low Republican turnout.

Spencer had about $800,000 in the bank as of late August, while Clinton had $22 million.
