Simple! Because we live just next door to the US, whatever happens in the US affects us, socially, politically and economically, sooner or later. So, it is vital for Canadians to be keeping tabs on stuff relating to the US. Furthermore, 1. there are many Canadians who have friends and relatives in the US, and many others who aspire to be Americans someday; 2. there are not a few members on this thread who behave as if they are Americans or manifest an Canadian-American identity crisis, and these ardent/intoxicated worshipers of Bush need a healthy dose of sobering up. .
