We and our leaders extend them all the courtesies as the representative of their people. We expect them to reciprocate....................... We can say all we like against our leaders but in no way can we tolerate other leaders to do so on our soil. The ground at the United Nations is international territory and no longer American territory (or, as you put it. "our soil"). As such, Ahmadinejad and Chavez were quite within their rights to speak their minds. You may disagree with Chavez but, mind you, he did not rave, rant and yell. Nor did he exhibit uncontrollable rage. As for Ahmadinejad, as much as he was reviled by many, he came away highly respected as an interlocutor and as an Iranian who could, not only talk the talk, but who is also prepared to walk the walk!None the same we only hope that they will take back some our valued principles of democracy and free speech with them back to their countries. A very nice and kindly sentiment! But bear in mind that democracy cannot be transplanted and expected to take root overnight. First, the ground must be properly prepared and other conditions must also be right for it. It is rather sad that many people gung ho on democracy don't seem to recognize this fact. It seems they believe that democracy could be rammed down people's throats. Rightly or wrongly, I believe this seemingly noble aim of spreading democracy is but a smoke screen for some other objective(s). Chinu, somehow it seems to me your persona has been undergoing a sea-change of late???? Have you experienced some gnosis or apperception ??? If so, share it. Please note I mean well.
