I'm sure some new drugs do come out of Canada.

The more relevant question is how many new drugs would come out of Canada if they couldn't make profits from selling to the American market.

"I wonder what would happen to the cost of Canadian health care if they lifted the price controls on prescription drugs."

It would likely go up. But there are other benefits to the Canadian system. For one, doctors make less. But their expenses are far lower, they don't have to carry malpractice insurance. I haven't seen any recent figures, but at one point, malpractice insurance consumed a third of a typical doctor's income.

Now before you shoot down the relevance of my argument, consider this: What new drugs come out of Canada?

Canada has 22 million people vs the US's 270 million. Just by the numbers there would be a lot less new drugs out of Canada.....so your point is rather meaningless.
