You'd be surprised.

I have an ancestor named Augustus Greene. Very common name, it turns out. Another, Valentine Peyton, you wouldn't believe how many there are.

The best Internet genealogy site, ancestry.com, has a free trial. You can input the name and they'll tell you whether it comes up, for free, but if you want to see the source, you have to get an account.

If you like solving mysteries, enjoy puzzles, and are a packrat, and enjoy being a detective, you will love genealogy. Also need a "steel trap mind"... so you can remember a piece of whatever it is you are trying to find, and then remember where you put the original note you had.

If you like your desk to always look like a designer was just there, and your pencils are in their pencil box where they belong, all in a neat tidy row....chances are you won't like it. <ggg>
