The jobs started to Disappear when generous motors came and raised the wages to the point that small factories couldn't compete. Then under the apprenticeship program as soon as the smaller factories got an apprentice to the point that they were journeymen GM offered them bigger bucks than the people who educated them could afford. They hired electricians to change light bulbs, and all kinds of things. eventually those businesses left. Or closed. Fruit packing was outsourced, we eat american now, and now factory farms grow out eggs and chickens and pork.

Because of the welfare set up Lots of jobs at Walmart or McDonalds or coffee shops go unfilled. There are always jobs in the paper, never enough workers.
As for the food bananas are cheaper here than in American stores. Pineapple has been 67 cents a can for weeks. Pork Roasts this week are $1.49 a pound..... Lots of it is USA meat.
Canada has free trade so protectionism isn't the answer, and we don't grow Bananas.

The border thing is war on terror, partly because the Liberal government told GWB that there was no reason to tighten security in Canada, So George went ahead to tighten the security between Canada and the US. He was right BTW
. My Mom buys her beer in the US She gets 24 bottles for about 7.99. the same case made in the same factory is 25.00 plus deposit in Canada.
