They came to help a government that had put it self in place by a coup. Than they decided that they didn't like that government so they engineered another coup and put a puppet government in place. The armed opposition to the Soviet involvement wasn't created by the US, neither was the Islamic radical part of it. The opposition was greatly assisted by the US, but it was already "lit", at very worst you could say we fanned the flames a bit, or more accurately you could say the ISI did, partly with our money. Al qaeda as such didn't develop until years later in response to the presence of US soldiers in Saudi, and part of what became Al Qaeda was the "Egyptian Islamic Jihad" which didn't develop because of Afghanistan.

secondly i don't think you know the history behind the soviet invasion. they came to help the govt already in power and not to overthrow it. I think the only thing "lit" around here is you.. especially given your choice of SI handle.. Maybe you should be "chicken track".. or even better, thing twice before you try and assert that someone doesn't know as much as you... (and that should keep you pretty busy since that would represent at least 99.9999% of the human race). As for the rest. Tim apparently covered the same primary points I was going to mention.. The communist govt has seized power in a coup that was at least tacitly (if not directly) backed by the Soviets. Hawk
