I think, if someone has the ability to say, "I don't want to die," then there's no right to second guess them.

I guess my own opinions on this were formed by representing patients at the Northern Virginia Training Center. Even the most profoundly retarded people, ones who can't see or talk or hear, have a great love for life that is incredible if you see it.

I was afraid to meet some of my clients ahead of time, but every time I do it, it just amazes me how happy they are.

Very big difference from the rest of us. They don't have any worries at all.

The ones who are a little better off and work outside, tend to be a little worried that others might chastise them or mock them, but when they're together, they're very happy and relaxed.

I also represent mentally ill people at commitment hearings and medication hearings -- these people are perfectly intelligent but completely miserable.
