True that options and many bonuses aren't in either of those charts, but I have a great deal of difficulty believing that they'd make a large and/or sudden change in either one.

I haven't read his column this week yet, perhaps he'll explain it and provide some facts in it...

I must be ignorant of the average workforce compensation since retiring in '84. Do you actually mean THAT many J6P workers are granted stock options and bonuses?
