Dancing Lessons at 120Million Anyone? Published June 18th, 2006 in General I have being in Hong Kong over the past week visiting some of my clients. The talk of town these days is Mimi Monica Wong head of HSBC private banking in Asia, is suing teacher Mirko Saccani for the return of 8 Million USD after he allegedly called her “lazy cow” and told her “move your arse”. Not being in the banking line, I am not purview to the social or economical backdrop to such social dancing, but it defintely must be good for business. According to some of my friends and what I understand, Social dancing is a big thing in Hong Kong finance industry; sort of like Golf. In fact, many wealthy couples social dance and thus bankers show up to prospect them as clients The cost for such prospecting varies, but it is about 4,000-5,000 HKD (500 USD) per person and since most of the bankers pay their dance instructor to join them in such dance parties. The cost is tagged to the them; moreover, they have to pay the dance instructors another 1-2,000 HKD (200-250 USD) for such services; such an exercise does cost about a thousand a pop etc. Apparently Ms Mimi Monica Wong paid in excess of 120,000,000 HKD to Mirko Saccani a 14 time Latin world champion to be her dancing instructor + dance partner during competions for unlimited times for a duration of 8 years. Regardless of whether it makes good commercial sense or not since I have no clue nor do I profess to be at all knowledgable about the Dancing world, this amount does seem a bit obscene for dancing lessons; and it has become the bulk of multiple jokes with the average Joes like myself astonished at the amount of extravagance for "DANCING LESSONS." Or as one of my uncles put it to "shake your booty" jacobpang.com
