Maybe an alternative might be a moderator recommended view of a board. Sort of a moderator's bookmark list of the most insightful on topic posts?

I don't know what the answer is, but it's kind of frustrating sometimes to visit a thread that sounds interesting only to find mostly Yahooligan type stuff. Oh well.
