You are not mistaken. It is the illegal part of immigration that is troublesome to many except Bush who for political expediency, one of which you mention, has turned a blind eye to this problem.

I think the only way to stem this is to apprehend a few terrorists while they are stealing across the border, and then you will see the neocons and Bush wake up.
