You sound like a very gullible American.

Hitler was elected because the electorate was gullible. Hitler convinced them to elect him. He did not force them. Jewish elements were persecuted and prosecuted because they fomented trouble against him.

Saddam applied the laws of his land to get rid of enemies. Very understandable. But the US and Britain and Israel and US-bought Chalabi capitalized on his acts to demonize him in order to garner support for the war against his country. Everyone now knows Bush lied, bigtime, to get the war going. Yet it seems you have forgotten all that. Still can't help being gullible, I suppose?

Ain't it just too bad you keep swallowing the subservient government media or (government-compliant media)'s propaganda spin hook, line and sinker!

Hitler was elected initially in a election. His party recieved the most votes but not an absolute majority. And of course once he was in power he wouldn't let anyone campaign against him. A real democracy isn't just "get elected once, rule forever...". Esp. when there is intimidation involved in the election.

As far as I can tell Chavez did legitimately win his election in 1998. He may have manipulated his re-election in 2000, or the 2004 recall referendum, but he does have a strong base of support in Venezuela. Even if the elections are not directly manipulated (ballot stuffing, people voting more than once, certain groups of people not allowed to vote etc.), I imagine that Chavez would use the control he does have to make campaigning difficult for any opposition that might arise.

Ahmadinejad's was elected while many of the opposition parties were boycotting the race. Also the clerics did apparently manipulate the election. And there was a limited list of approved candidates that had to be approved by the "Council of Guardians" And he's not the real national leader anyway. The theocracy rules Iran.
